Access Control and Security

Who and what should be checked on entrance and exit of a terminal ?
The truck driver, the truck or the load ?

The need for tighter and more efficient security and access control in ports and terminals has accelerated since 9/11. The requirement to identify each person and vehicle entering a terminal and keep a real-time log of all persons present on the terminal became a major aspect in these security initiatives.

In order to provide more automated alternatives to these labor-intensive access control procedures, CAMCO decided to develop state-of-the-art access control systems that can be deployed as stand-alone solution or as an access control module integrated in the Gate Operating System - GOS. These solutions ensure a complete and automated security and access control and identification process and the automated and centralized recording and validation of all these IDs, without any interference with the productivity of the the port, the terminal and its gates.

CAMCO offers a wide variety of integrated access control solutions that are based on the combined deployment of modern card systems, kiosk systems, traffic management systems and acess control management software modules. Depending on the scope of the project, CAMCO can offer a solution that manages only the identification of truck drivers by reading their ID Card and interface with a third party access control system for validation, up to supplying complete turn-key access control systems to cover and manage the access rights of all persons entering a port area with many different access points.

CAMCO has introduced many of these access control solutions combining numerous systems and technologies including:

  • ID Card systems (proximity, Mifare, tag technologies and combinations)
  • Card issuing systems
  • Card reading and validation systems
  • Biometric solutions as handscan and fingerprint
  • Traffic management and control systems including barriers, lights, guidance panels, turnstiles...
  • LPR-based access control for vehicles
  • Centralized and web-based access control database systems
  • Security kiosk and pedestal systems

As an example, the Transnet group in South-Africa uses more then 13.000 combined proximity/semi-active tags across the 3 automated terminals (Pier1, DCT and Ngqura).
